Why Your Skin Needs Vitamin E

By The Gelagen Team · September 2026

Vitamin E is the primary fat-soluble antioxidant in human skin. It concentrates in cell membranes where it protects the lipid bilayers from oxidative damage. Our formula delivers 7.4mg (49% DV) in the premium natural d-alpha tocopheryl acetate form.

How it protects skin

Cell membranes are made of phospholipid bilayers vulnerable to free radical attack (lipid peroxidation). Vitamin E research shows it intercepts this chain reaction, preserving membrane integrity and skin barrier function.

Natural vs synthetic forms

We chose d-alpha tocopheryl acetate (the natural form) over dl-alpha tocopherol (synthetic). Research indicates the natural form has roughly twice the bioavailability of synthetic Vitamin E. This is one of several premium ingredient decisions in our formula.

Vitamin E and UV protection

When combined with Vitamin C, Vitamin E provides enhanced photoprotection. The two antioxidants work synergistically: C regenerates E after it neutralizes a free radical. Both are present in Gelagen.

Dietary context

At 49% DV, our Vitamin E dose is a meaningful contribution but not a complete daily supply. Nuts, seeds, spinach and avocado are excellent dietary sources to complement supplementation.
