The term “proprietary blend” sounds sophisticated, like a trade secret worth protecting. In practice, it is a legal mechanism that allows supplement brands to list ingredients without disclosing individual doses. Gelagen does not use them. Here is why that matters.
A label might read: “Skin Beauty Blend 500mg: Biotin, Vitamin C, Zinc, Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid.” You know the total is 500mg. You do not know if biotin is 400mg and everything else is dust, or if each gets 100mg. The brand is not required to tell you.
When independent reviewers try to evaluate products with proprietary blends, they often have to write that doses “could not be found.” Without doses, nobody can compare the product to published research or evaluate whether amounts are clinically meaningful.
Our Supplement Facts panel lists all 13 nutrients with exact milligram amounts. This includes the two ingredients we know are at trace levels (choline at 0% DV, inositol at 40mcg). Full disclosure means showing the weaknesses alongside the strengths.
If a supplement lists individual ingredient doses, it is being transparent. If it uses proprietary blends, ask yourself: what are they hiding, and why? Your body deserves to know what it is receiving.
